How To Make Delicious Lemon Poppy Seed Donuts

I love everything about donuts. I love to make them, decorate them, and eat them. I love all types of donuts, baked or fried. They are simply delicious! For this recipe, I am going to show you how to make baked lemon poppy seed donuts.

Important Information:

Course: Dessert

Cuisine: American

Prep Time: 13 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Servings: 12 large donuts or 24 mini donuts

Prepping:

· Gather all your ingredients.

· Pre-measure your ingredient.

· Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

· Grease your baking pan.

Ingredients: This recipe consists of ingredients that you already have in your kitchen. To make this recipe a little healthier, you can substitute the milk of your choice. This may be plant-based milk or low-fat milk. You can also substitute the sugar for agave or your favorite sweetener. I used these ingredients because I had them in the kitchen, but the donuts were so soft and full of flavor. For this recipe, you will need:

· 2 ½ cups flour

· ¾ cup sugar

· 2 tbsp poppy seeds

· 1 ½ tsp baking soda

· ¼ tsp salt

· 1 ¼ cup milk

· 2 eggs

· 4 tbsp oil or melted butter

· Zest of one large lemon

· 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Glaze:

· 1 cup confectioner’s sugar

· 1 ½ tsp poppy seeds

· 2 tbsp lemon juice

· 2 tbsp evaporated milk

· 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, sift all of your powder ingredients, including salt and sugar.

2. Add the poppy seeds to the dry ingredients and mix them into the mixture.

3. In another bowl, incorporate all your liquid ingredients, including the eggs.

4. With a hand mixer, mix the liquid ingredients until they are incorporated very well.

5. Pour the liquid ingredients over the dry ingredients and mix gently with a spatula until all the ingredients are incorporated well.

6. Once your ingredients are mixed together, add your lemon zest and fold it into the mixture gently.

7. Fill a piping bag with the mixture. This will make it easier to fill your donut pan.

8. Take your greased baking pan and fill the spaces ¾ of the way.

9. Pop the pan into the oven for 10 to 12 minutes.

10. Check your donuts at 10 minutes to make sure you do not overbake the donuts.

11. For the glaze preparation, take your sugar and mix in the poppy seeds.

12. Add the lemon juice, butter, and evaporated milk and stir until you have a thick liquid consistency.

13. Once your donuts are done baking, let them cool until they are at room temperature.

14. Dip the donuts once or twice into the glaze and set them on a rack.

Topper Tips:

1. Substitute your choice of milk and sweeteners.

2. Check your donuts at 10 minutes, so you don’t overbake them. Nobody likes a tough donut.

3. Make the glaze as light as you want by adding a tablespoon or two of milk. I like mine on the thicker side.
